I’m guilty of chasing ‘the new’ ideas, solutions & models and keeping up to date on everything #HRDD#justtransition#sustainability#businessmodels related. Reading this latest International Labour Organization policy guidance for the promotion of decent work in the agri-food sector in the agri-food sector, highlights the need to ensure the basic rights @ work are addressed, enabled & supported.
It reinforced the need for solid foundations on which to build. The ILO document provides guidance for Governments, business and worker organisations ……. and it’s concise & practical.
What are the basic?
The basics for our working lives, the achievement of ambitions related to the Sustainable Development Goals, Decent Work and importantly for those who feed our supply chains are ๐
๐ Ensuring freedom of association and …….. collective bargaining
๐ Elimination of all forms of forced or compulsory labour
๐ Abolition of child labour
๐ Promoting equality and non-discrimination
๐ Ensuring the right to a safe and healthy working environment
The bedrock of human rights @ work

Labour rights are the bedrock of human rights at work and so has impact on worker families, communities & local economy. Training, workshops, collaboration or supplier guidance are delivered against any of these building blocks so that your supply chain approach is both strategic and progressive.
If we invest in getting these foundations built, then we can navigate change in a truly respectful (dare I say Decent) way and all the ‘new’ things can be built and stand strong. For me – a reminder of what actually matters and moving forward, ensuring the ‘new’ builds on these foundations.
