This portfolio reflects a range of work I’ve had the privilege of working on – needless to say, with inspirational and committed people. At the heart of it all is wide research, collaboration and consultation with all stakeholders.
Grounded in the ILO fundamental principles and rights at work, the portfolio covers training, workshops, guidance, strategy development, theories of change and project management.

Guidance development: 2024/2025 Human Rights and climate change & environmental guidance set for members of the Network for Ethical Trade (FNET)

Training development: November 2024 Bangladesh Labour Foundation (supported by Solidaridad Asia) training for Garment Industry Associations in preparation for the EU/CSDDD Directive


Training manual & guidance (June to September 2024)
Development of training manual / guidance on labour standards for the construction industry. The focus is M/SMEs and part of the ILO program Decent Work and Labour Rights in Southern Africa’s Construction Sector: Building a pathway to improved working conditions for youth and the working poor
Thomson Reuters Foundation (2024 training framework)

Development of a training & alumni network strategy on the ‘S’ in ESG. It included delivery of pilot training session, materials and a train the trainer manual.
ITC/ILO (2024 case studies)

Case study development for the Sustainable Enterprise and Economies Programme, Multinational Enterprises and Responsible Business Conduct. The case studies are practical guidance for companies to address core labour standards in supply chains.
Just Transition – African Supplier event
2023 (June): Presentation at an all Africa supplier event on Business & Human Rights for Partner Africa & AIM Progress – an introduction to the Just Transition approach on dealing with climate change through the Human Rights lens.

Modern Slavery review – responsible recruitment & employer pays principle
2023 (June): Review of Modern Slavery Statement’s, with recommendation’s on improvements to retailer & supplier initiatives on responsible recruitment & employer pays principle. Commissioned by the Food Network for Ethical Trade, Responsible Recruitment Working Group.

International Training Centre of the ILO
Guest speaker for the International Labour Standards & Responsible Business Conduct: The labour dimension of Human Rights Due Diligence. In 2022, developed a module on HRDD and climate change (Just Transition)

Ethical Trading Initiative trainer & facilitator
As a consultant trainer Human Rights Essentials, Grievance Mechanisms, implementing Freedom of Association, progressing worker representation and a range of bespoke company & trade union sessions.

2018 FOA implementation plan
Guidance for ETI members on the structure & phases of Social Dialogue and it’s importance in investing in worker representatives and industrial relations. This was also laid out as a workshop for all members

Guidance on mapping workplace representation & how workers raise matters of concern with their employers. It details types of workplace structures & how to progress towards full & independent trade union formation

Recognising the impact of climate change on the world of work & employers adapting workplaces to reduce carbon, waste etc – resources were developed for trade union reps to engage & participate in workplace activities. Topics included energy reduction, biodiversity, ultra low carbon transport & collective agreements

Part of the MDG call to action & designed to help trade union members take action in their workplaces. It focusses on CSR & procurement practices
A trade union guide on how to work with private & public sector employers to align policies & practice in support of poverty alleviation, decent work & ethical practices

Some examples of work I’ve led
A series of tri-partite events to establish an expert support network in partnership with ITF and business. This was in response to the seafarers crises during the Covid19 pandemic.
It expanded to include road haulage with a focus on impact on drivers during conflict. HRDD in global warehousing brought an additional element to supply chain logistics.

HRDD approach to climate change (Just Transition) Working with international business, trade unions & NGOs, led the development of a strategy & implementation plan for Companies to approach & harmonise their human rights & climate change through the Just Transition lens.

Occupational Safety & Health briefings, meetings and calls to action including:
- COVID 19 briefing on worker safety & supplier support for garment, manufacturing & food supply chains
- Supporting the call to make Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) part of the Fundamental Principles and Rights at work.

Bargaining for International Development: The goal of the project was to build the structure, strategy and support to enable Prospect members to act on the MDGs within their workplaces. Click link for the year one impact review

Informal women domestic workers: In collaboration with Oxfam GB, an investigation into the conditions of women domestic workers in the Kenyan Mukuru informal settlement. This led to the development of a five year EU funded program to address economic empowerment and working conditions of domestic workers.
